What can we say, you’ve gotta see the Congress Avenue Bridge Bats! There’s about 1.5 million of them! The Congress Avenue bridge bats are the top tourist attraction in Austin, Texas. Every day between late July and early November, 1.5 million bats leave their homes underneath the downtown South Congress Avenue Bridge to search for food. This is the largest urban bat colony in North America. Every year in March, 750,000 Mexican free-tailed bats arrive in Austin to deliver the next generation, which typically occurs in June.
