Bats are often maligned but vitally beneficial animals for their ecosystem services in controlling pests, pollinating plants, and dispersing seeds of so many important crops both here and abroad. Their actions save U.S. agriculture billions of dollars each year in pest control, and reduce the spread of dangerous viruses carried by mosquitoes. Bats do not observe state borders, and the fungus causing White-Nose Syndrome is spreading fast across the country, devastating populations of cave-dwelling bats. These bats are essential to keeping our forests and farms productive. Their protection requires national cooperation and understanding.

There are many different ways to help bats and they are all important. These actions can help protect bats living in our backyards and in our communities. In 2018, we are asking everyone to consider hosting their own event to participate in Bat Week.
